Famous Aries lists ignore that the zodiac's zero point actually moves

Before you can say who counts as an Aries, you have to answer a harder question: what makes a date an Aries date at all. There are two live answers, they disagree, and the disagreement is the most interesting thing about this sign.

Aries is the zero point, and the zero point moves
Western astrology uses the tropical zodiac. Its starting mark, 0 degrees Aries, is not a star or constellation. It is a moment: the sun crosses the celestial equator heading north at the March equinox. Everything else follows.
The circle of the ecliptic is cut into twelve equal thirty-degree stretches beginning there. Aries is the first of them. The sign is a season's opening, not a patch of sky.
That anchoring has a consequence. The equinox point is not fixed against the background stars. The Earth's axis wobbles slowly, and the crossing point slides westward along the ecliptic: about one degree in a human lifetime, a full circuit in roughly twenty-six thousand years. Astronomers call it axial precession, and the effect was already known in antiquity.
The two drifted apart. Roughly 2,000 years ago, the March equinox fell in front of the stars of Aries, so sign and constellation lined up. Today that equinox point sits against Pisces and moves toward Aquarius, source of the phrase "the Age of Aquarius".
Someone born in early April holds the sign Aries in tropical practice. The sun that day stands in front of a different constellation.
The recurring "thirteenth sign" story
Every few years a headline says the star signs are wrong, or that a thirteenth sign was found. The observation is real: the modern constellation boundaries drawn for astronomy are unequal in size, and Ophiuchus does cross the ecliptic.
Sort birthdays by which constellation the sun was physically in front of, and you get thirteen unequal groups, not twelve equal ones.
The reply from within the tradition is not evasive. Tropical astrology never claimed to be a map of the constellations. It divides the year by the sun's relationship to the equator and the seasons, using constellation names inherited from the era when the two coincided. On that account the constellations are the sign names' etymology, not their definition.
Sidereal astrology, mainly practiced in India, takes the other route and keeps the zodiac tied to the stars. Two systems, two definitions, one shared vocabulary, and a person can carry different signs in each.
Where the Aries vocabulary comes from
The words attached to this sign were not gathered by watching people born in spring. They are deductions from four assignments, and the derivation is easy to follow.

Every familiar Aries keyword falls out of that grid, in the way the grid behind all twelve signs predicts. This matters because it shows what kind of statement a trait list is. It is an interpretation of a symbolic structure, applied consistently. It is not a summary of anybody's behavior, and the tradition's better writers have never pretended it was.
Why "famous people of this sign" is the weakest use of it
A roster of well-known Aries birthdays looks like evidence and does no work. Birthdays are spread across the calendar, so every sign has enough famous names to fill a page. Only the hits get listed; the same-sign people who never became known are invisible, and they are the comparison such a claim would need.
A description written loosely enough to fit a whole month tends to fit whoever reads it: a pattern with its own long research history, and the same effect that keeps four-letter rosters of public figures in circulation.
There is also a plain decency problem. Assigning a temperament to a living person from their birthday is a claim about their character made by a stranger. The tradition does not license it.
Reading a chart is something done with a person, from their own birth data and their own account of their life. It is not performed on a stranger from a date on a website.
What the sign is good for
Used as language rather than as a verdict, the vocabulary earns its keep. "I'm in an Aries mood about this" compresses something real about wanting to start before the plan is finished.
The tradition also gives Aries a set of counterweights: the sign opposite it, set out in the notes on the second half of the wheel, the houses that fall elsewhere in a chart, and the placements that qualify it. A reading built on the sun alone throws away almost the entire apparatus.

Common questions
Has my star sign changed?
Not in tropical Western practice, which defines signs by the equinox and the seasons rather than by constellations. In sidereal practice you may well hold a different sign, and always have. Neither is a correction of the other; they measure different things.
Is Ophiuchus a real sign?
It is a real constellation that crosses the ecliptic. Whether it belongs in a zodiac depends on whether that zodiac is built from constellations, and the Western one is not.
Why is Aries first?
Because the tropical zodiac starts at the March equinox and Aries is the thirty-degree stretch that begins there. It is a calendar decision.
Can I tell someone's sign from how they act?
